Home to the world-famous Monastery of Alcobaça, a UNESCO World Heritage. One of the most popular things to see inside are the tombs of King Pedro I and his mistress, Inês de Castro, who was assassinated in 1355. I love also enjoying lunch or afternoon coffee with convent pastries in one of the restaurants/cafes in the lovely square in front of the monastery.

Alcobaça owes its fame and development to its majestic Monastery. Its size, the purity of its architectural style, the beauty of the materials and the care with which it was built make this a masterpiece of Cistercian Gothic art and Portugal and UNESCO's World Heritage Site.
