16km west of Chora lies Paleopoli, the ancient city of Andros, which flourished from the classical to the late Roman era. In addition, in the wider area of Paleopoli, it is located the prehistoric settlement of Plaka, the geometric settlement of Zagora, as well as a fortified settlement of the Neolithic period (4500-3300 BC), where there have been discovered rock paintings depicting various animals, ships and linear figures.

Ήταν η πρώτη πρωτεύουσα της Άνδρου και το 300πχ έγινε κατολίσθηση και η αρχαία πόλις χάθηκε κάτω από το χώμα. Τώρα είναι χτισμένο το χωριό Παλαιόπολη. Τα περισσότερα αρχαία ευρήματα που είναι στο αρχαιολογικό μουσείο της Άνδρου είναι από εδώ. Τελευταία έφτιαξαν και εδώ αρχαιολογικό μουσείο με άλλα ευρήματα. Εξυπηρετείται από την δημόσια συγκοινωνία όλο τον χρόνο.
