It is a 1.5-2 hour drive through the mountains to get to these swimming holes in Gorges State Park, but it they are worth mentioning. Rainbow Falls has a swimming hole below its impressive 150' waterfall. Just up the trail from Rainbow Falls is Turtleback Falls (about 1/4 mile). This one is for the adventure-seekers. There are strong currents, and you will need to climb a rope to access the falls. There is about an 8' drop off the edge of the "Turtleback" rock where you freefall with the waterfall into the pool below. It is a 3.5-4 mile hike (roundtrip, out-and-back). There are no lifeguards at many natural swimming holes, so they are "swim at your own risk". Please note that for your safety, you should never climb on or around waterfalls in undesignated areas. We recommend bringing water shoes or footwear that you can get wet for your comfort in rocky swimming areas. Water temperature averages around 50-60 degrees in the warmer months, so be prepared to be chilly!

My personal favorite hike and waterfalls. Takes about 1:30-2hrs round trip but worth it to see the gorgeous Rainbow Falls. Trailhead located in Gorges State Park
