During the summer, take the free Staten Island Ferry to the free Governors Island ferry to take a free tour of Castle Williams which dates back to the Revolutionary War. Beautiful beach bar and park.

Open in the summer. Get a free ferry there from South Ferry. It's fun to pack a lunch and picnic there and bikes there too. governorsislandalliance.org

Interesting ex-naval base with forts turned into a giant park. Rent bikes when you get off the ferry that you catch from Pier Six at the bottom of Atlantic Ave and tour the island in style.
