The Sunny Lake Bird Sanctuary is a 16 acre site that was opened in 2012 when the town of Davie bought the property and saved it from commercial development. Amenities include a canoe launch, a picnic shelter and tables, a recycled plastic fishing dock and a 10-station exercise trail. Future plans include renovating the existing house into a conservation and education center with exhibit space and expanding the site with a 2.4-acre parcel just to the south of it. Some of the birds that have been spotted here are a wood stork, anhinga, cormorant, snowy egret and osprey.
