Alnmouth, Alnwick, NE66 2RU - 5.1 miles This wide sandy bay sits at mouth of the River Aln. The pretty village of Alnmouth sits behind. Backed by vast expanses of dunes, many birds and wildlife can be seen here. Please note: It can be dangerous near the estuary mouth - swimming is not recommended.

Alnmouth beach sits in a wide sandy bay at the mouth of the River Aln. Swimming in the sea at Alnmouth is not generally recommended and it is particularly dangerous towards the estuary mouth on a dropping tide. In fact there are signs warning against even paddling near the river mouth let alone attempting to cross. Whilst the beach in front of the village is seldom busy, the beach to the south of the estuary is often empty. Backed by vast expanses of dunes there is a wealth of birds and wildlife to be seen here. As part of the Northumberland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty the scenery won’t disappoint either.

A picturesque village with a curved beach - popular amongst families - great for sand castle building & ball games. Visit the smallest museum in Northumberland – The Ferryman’s Hut for the history of the lives of local boatmen.

Beautiful beach is a wide Sandy bay at the mouth of the River Aln. The town of Alnmouth is pretty with shops, pubs and cafes. There is a lovely looped walk along the estuary passed moored boats called Lovers Walk, leading to the main bridge into town and you can walk back through the shops towards the beach. Along the estuary you pass a children's play area and there is a purpose built barbecue in the park with a wonderful view over the boats and river. A great place to picnic on a summers day!
