In our opinion, the best cheddar in the universe. You won't be disappointed and if you ask nicely, they often let you see the massive cave built into the hill which houses all the truckles. An amazing sight. Westcombe Dairy (5 miles) Westcombe Dairy is located in a beautiful secluded valley in east Somerset called the Batcombe Vale. A small family-run artisan dairy, Westcombe uses a handcrafted approach to make award-winning cheeses from their very own cows’ milk. Visitors are welcome at the dairy where they can taste cheese directly from the aging room, sample some craft beer from The Wild Beer Co, or try one of the amazing apple spirits from The Somerset Cider Brandy Co. Cheese is to Somerset as bubbly is to the Champagne region of France. This is not a 'store', it didn't fit in to any of the category options. You are buying direct from the dairy, the slowly ageing truckles of their powerful, salty Cheddar are on view and the 'shop' is a simple affair where you buy direct from the producer. Westcombe makes just three or four different cheeses, all delicious, what is more, you will pay considerably less here than you will in the supermarket. Combine a trip here with lunch at the Three Horseshoes in Batcombe (listed under Food and Drink) for a pretty perfect morning or afternoon.
