Powillimount Beach is located to the east of Southerness beach near Kirkbean on the Solway Coast and part of the Arbigland Estate. Views over the Solway Firth and on a clear day you can see the Lake District. It is a great beach to visit it is full of shells, rock pools and huge rock formations. There is one large stone in particular that looks like it does not belong. It is a huge granite boulder and legend has is that the devil took a bite out of Criffel and spat it out on the beach. Criffel is the large hill that overlooks Powillimount. The less fantastical version is that it was carried down to the beach by glaciers during the last ice age. I’ve copied/pasted that information as I can’t do this beautiful beach justice, go see it for yourself! You won’t be disappointed. Don’t forget your flip flops, costume, sarong and picnic!

A beautiful beach with amazing rock formations. Lots to explore and some spectacular views across the Solway Firth. There is a car park right beside beach.
A lovely beach with lots of cockle shells and a rock arch looking out to sea. Unspoiled paradise out of season.
