A remnant of the 1962 World’s Fair, the Pacific Science Center is a beloved institution in this high-tech town. The museum has been constantly redesigned both to reflect new scientific knowledge and to make the exhibits as engaging as possible to visitors of all ages. Highlights include the animatronic dinosaurs, a giant insect village, and a science playground. There are also two IMAX theaters and special exhibits that come through on a regular basis that are often some of the coolest exhibits Seattle gets in general (King Tut visiting, for example)

In a Minoru Yamasaki building dating from the World’s Fair, the Pacific Science Center is a family-oriented museum bringing scientific concepts to life through hundreds of hands-on exhibits. For a brief example, at the Insect Village you’ll discover the almost supernatural feats that insects are capable of, from carrying air in bubbles on underwater dives to lifting objects many times their weight. “What is Reality” is a window on immersive technologies, confronting the mind-bending questions that are shaping our future. My personal favorite is the Tropical Butterfly House, warm and humid all year round with hundreds of free-flying butterflies, with a different mix of species every few months. Great photo opportunities with butterflies. The Pacific Science Center is one of the few attractions in the world with two IMAX theaters, planetarium and laser dome equipped with a shuddering 10,000 watt concert sound system.
