A fun day out is to take the ferry into the city. Parking at Meadowbank (or take the train from Hornsby to Meadowbank) is a good jumping off place, the normal commuter ferry goes from there to circular quay. There are faster and slower trains so check online. It’s just the cost of a ticket and it’s just the normal passenger ferry.
