Sightseeing

The 11 mile loop is closed to traffic on Mondays and Wednesday until 10:30 AM during warm months. You can rent bike and helmet from Cades Cove Campground Store. It took my family about 3 hours to complete this ride when I took my 4 children out on it when they were smaller. It is a great way to enjoy the cove!

http://www.lecontelodge.com/ You can call a few days ahead and order a hot lunch up at the top during the warmer months. I recommend trail head from Alum Cave Bluffs ~ you can get up the mountain in about 3 hours when it's warm. It's taken me about 3 hours before to make it up to Alum Cave Bluffs in the ice ~ and it was treacherous with ice ~ you should wear ice cleats sometimes even through April! Views from Clifftops and a sunrise from Myrtle Point are the most AMAZING views in the park from my humble opinion. You can go through the National Park site and make reservation to backcountry camp up at a shelter not far from the cabins/lodge. It is not very expensive, but RSVP

Steep trail about 1.5 hours from here. It is all paved, but steep up to observation tower from which you can view the most beautiful sunrise.

GORGEOUS views after steep climb! Be careful up here! Lightening is prone to strike here often so don't go if possible storm in weather forecast! But it is way up and a gorgeous view in the fall if you don't have time to get caught in traffic in the Great SMoky Mountain NAtional Park!

http://www.outdoorknoxville.com/places/greenways/south/knox-blount-greenway The City of Knoxville section of the Knox/Blount Greenway is the first phase of a plan to provide a pedestrian connection from Knoxville south through Knox and Blount counties to the Great Smoky Mountains. The completed phase spans from Marine Park, along the shore of the Tennessee River, passes the UT Practice Golf Course and Cherokee Farm Innovation Campus and connects to the Neyland Greenway via the J.E. "Buck" Karnes Bridge. The next phase will be to continue the greenway south from Marine Park to join the Alcoa-Maryville greenway system. The final phase of the greenway will eventually continue through Townsend
