Wonderul little city; I recommand to eat fish at 'van Dries', stroll around at the haven and visit 'Dolfinarium' a zoo for sea animals.

Nice historic city on the lake-side with cafe's in the centre of town as well as on the waterside. Also recommended for a shopping afternoon. About a half hour drive from the airbnb.

Harderwijk. Distance: 17 km. Harderwijk has been a Hanseatic city since 1252. The city, located at the time on the Zuiderzee, joined the German Hanze. With the coming and going of traders there was plenty of activity in the city. Harderwijk became a city of significance. Now, in the 21st century, the traces of this time are still visible. Where you walk today, centuries ago people walked who played a role in the Hanze. Harderwijk received city rights from the Count of Gelre in 1231. The city quickly developed into a leading trading city. It benefited from its location on a number of important trade routes, to Deventer, Elburg, Hattem, Kampen and cities along the Zuiderzee, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea. There have been regular floods for as long as Harderwijk has existed. Due to storm tides, the water rose to great heights, so that the water ran into the city. The flood of 1916 led to the Zuiderzee Act, which laid the foundation for the reclamation of the Zuiderzee. With the construction of the Afsluitdijk in 1932, the Zuiderzee became the IJsselmeer. With the Hanseatic city walk you will be guided along the gems of the city. The Vischpoort, the Grote Kerk, the City Museum, the Vischmarkt (the culinary square) and the port of Harderwijk. You look out over the Wolderwijd where once, the water of the Zuiderzee was. Harderwijk is a bustling and lively city. The trade has moved to cozy stores with a wide range of clothing, accessories, gift items, treats and much more. But also to the many terraces where delicious drinks and tasty lunches are served. Harderwijk is a culinary city, a romantic city, a city with a lot to experience.
