This is a Japanese-inspired store, and they have things like tea sets, cookware, and knickknacks. The focus is on handmade, artisanal pieces. Walk through the store all the way to the back, and keep going through the back door to the little red-brick backhouse. It’s a gallery space with really amazing Japanese artwork, books, and they have really cool exhibitions there.

Tortoise is moving soon...from Abbot Kinney to a new space at 12705 Venice Blvd. LA 90066. Tortoise has for fifteen years been the go to place for beautifully crafted Japanese home goods, ceramics and gifts. The new store is a knock out! Definitely worth the treck up Venice Boulevard.
