How to get there: Exit Kompleks Gladiol, and walk east for 500m along Jalan Pengayoman. Mie Ceng will be on your right. This place is crowded, unromantic, and noisy. What it delivers in yumminess makes up for its undesirable qualities. Its mainstay favorite is the Mie Ceng (Ceng Noodle). Mie Ceng is subgum Hongkong-style, deep-fried crispy noodle topped with rich, thick, seafood-chicken-vegetable broth. Many locals will tell you that Mie Ceng is an impostor, follow-up act to Mie Titi. This is true, but over the years Mie Ceng has become my preferred go-to comfort food. Plus, Mie Ceng actually cares about wiping their tables and mopping their floors. Mie Ceng is a dry establishment, which is unfortunate considering how well the salty noodle and sauce go with a frozen pint of lager or pilsener. Solution: take your noodles to go and pick up a bottle or two of Bir Bintang to enjoy in the comfort of your rental unit.
