The bustling market town of Vélez-Málaga lies 5 km inland from Torre del Mar, surrounded by subtropical vegetation. Capital of La Axarquía, Vélez-Malaga, often simply referred to as Vélez, is the centre of an agricultural region known for its strawberries and vineyards, which produce the muscatel grapes from which the famous Málaga wines are made. The town is a centre for the processing of olive oil and sugar cane. Ceramics feature among other industries. If you are in Velez on a Thursday, take time to wander around its weekly market, always an enjoyable experience.

Vélez Málaga is the capital of the Axarquía region. One of the most important municipalities of the province of Malaga both by number of inhabitants and its historical and cultural heritage. It is a vibrant small town with a beautiful historic centre with sites such as Casa Cervantes, Convent of San Francisco, 17th century palace, the city museum, the fortress and many restaurants and bars.

Eroski is a huge supermarket and has everything you might need. It is on the road that heads to the coast from Velez-Malaga, Otherwise Velez-Malaga has a tradtional market to shop in too.

This is the Aqua Park. The town itself has an abundance of small shops and streets, cafes and restaurants. Definitely worth a hike up to the Monastery
