MAke sure you go there, perhaps the most scenic village all around the area. Boats connections from Rio, or otherwise, if weather is not good, train to LA Spezia, then P bus line to Portovenere (about 40 min).

Beautiful characteristic village, situated at the end of the northen headland of La Spezia. Possibility to reach by car or by ferry. Walking trough the mainstreet towards the San Pietrochurch, build on the rocks, is absolutely worth. The historical center is carfree.

Portovenere is near La Spezia, is another World Heritage site to visit, absolutely spectacular with its church on top of the sea and its Castle. Was one of the favourite places of the poet Byron.

Portovenere has several beaches where to go with children, but we like most the rocks at the sanctuary because the water is clean and lovely, but just not suited for young children.
