Hiking, skiing, snowboarding, sight-seeing and lunch! The Peaks are lovely any time of year - during summer you can take the ski lift up the mountain, hike around and enjoy the awesome views in every direction. Fall aspen colors abound in this area in October - you can go up the SnowBowl Road, take the Hart Prairie Road drive, go up to Lockett Meadown, or just drive the dirt road that follows along the north side of the Peaks for spectacular views. For hiking trails information, contact the Coconino National Forest. Then of course, there is skiing and snowboarding in the winter - check the Arizona Snowbowl website for more information and conditions.

Take the gondola up at Snow Bowl. Schultz Creek is a popular trailhead for a nice hike.

Our most visible local site is a volcanic mountain range on the north side within the Coconino National Forest. Called simply “The Peaks” by locals, it is the remains of an eroded stratovolcano that 200,000 yrs ago erupted laterally, and along with glacial erosion turned the once 16,000 ft peak into 6 peaks. Humphreys Peak is the highest summit in the range and the highest point in the state at 12,633 ft, and on its western slope is Snowbowl – our local ski resort. The other five are Agassiz Peak, Fremont Peak, Aubineau Peak, Rees Peak, and Doyle Peak. The Peaks have considerable religious significance to thirteen local Native American tribes.

Highest point in Arizona 12,444 feet, great views if you are a hiker and a ski lift with restaurant at the bottom if you are not.
