Beautiful 19th Century water powered forge. Demonstrations of how the tools used to be made run every hour. It was originally used to produce agricultural and mining hand tools and at its peak produced around 400 edge tools a day.It remained an active foundry until 1960.

The last working water-powered forge in England. 10 minutes walk away, well worth a visit.

“Fantastic easy cycling/walking for young and old..... The Granite Way is an 11 mile cycle and walkway running between Okehampton and Lydford along the north western edge of Dartmoor. It is mostly traffic free, largely following the course of the former Southern Region railway line. ... For example, close to the Okehampton end of the route is Meldon Quarry.”

“A friendly traditional village pub with an attractive beer garden at the back and outdoor seating at the front. Relax and enjoy a pint of real ale, beer, locally brewed cider, a glass of wine or any of your favourite tipples. This atmospheric village pub and restaurant also serves good home cooked food.”
