I recommend taking walks in this area. It is beautiful and if you walk down from Munkkiniemi to Hietaniemi, you get a nice stretch of coast and architecture from different eras. One of my favourite areas for a stroll in Helsinki.

Just a nice neighbourhood with wooden buildings.
Here lies the Sibelius monument. It's ok, but I prefer just taking walks in the area around it. If you want to see the monument, I recommend you also take a around to dog-isle. It's for dogs to run wild on, but offers nice views of the surrounding area too.

MechelininkatuHere lies the Sibelius monument. It's ok, but I prefer just taking walks in the area around it. If you want to see the monument, I recommend you also take a around to dog-isle. It's for dogs to run wild on, but offers nice views of the surrounding area too.
When you live in a city all your life, it's sometimes hard to appreciate the obvious touristy parts of it. Suomenlinna is touristy, but at the same time it is one of a kind. There's no other place in Helsinki quite like it. It's worth a picnic on a sunny day. Just beware of the seagulls.
