Food Scene

This is our local restaurant. It serves traditional cuisine from the Pyrenees. Although the decor might not be chic, the food is very yummy and the owners are charming.

This is one of those hidden gems. We found this restaurant through word of mouth and when we arrived, we weren't alone. The food is divine and the location is sublime. You can even stay the night and use their thermal waters with healing properties.

Although we've not yet eaten here, many of our friends have. Inside, with its chesterfield sofas and well stocked bar, you could settle in for the afternoon, evening. The food is top notch and the service is first class. You won't be disappointed. Charming terrace outside.

Pau has a fascinating history and has close links with the British. It was the birthplace of Henri IV, is home to the oldest golf course in the world outside of Britain, has over 300 villas that the English built in the Victorian era, and lots more. The highlight must be the Boulevard des Pyrenees with its stunning views.

Parks & Nature

If you're looking for a taste of what nature can do, this is it. The Cirque de Lescun is an amphitheatre of rock and mountain. The Pyrenean Haute Route passes through here making it's way to the Atlantic or Mediterranean coasts. You could plan a 12 day hike to the Cirque du Gavarnie, the rockstar of the Pyrenees. Or you could you just plan a lovely day out.

Essentials

Sam, who runs this store, is a top bloke. He's put a huge amount of effort into creating a little supermarket that has everything, from vegetables and fruit, to foie gras and wine. You could do your weekly shop there and it won't cost you much more than the bigger supermarkets.
