This is about 1 1/2 hour drive. You could spend an entire day here. The wildlife is abundant and there are several waterfalls and lakes. It is magnificent!
In the winter you have Lake Eldora for some great skiing and that is only 30 minutes away.

In the summer there are concerts being performed in this natural Amphitheater formed by red rocks. You sit outside under the stars, in the foothills of the mountains, with Denver's night lights glowing over the rocks while listening to music. This is an experience you will never forget! (You must book the tickets in advance as they sell out quickly). In the winter you can still go there to see the amphitheater and the museum which is very interesting. this is free of charge. From there you can visit the small town of Evergreen, about 20 minutes away, for shopping and restaurants.
