You go to the restaurant and you have a feeling that you are in your own backyard only being served instead of doing it all yourself... It is stunning and desert is literally hanging from the trees. You can pick your own apple or pear or plum. Tables are separated by shrubs.

In the center of Bascarsija Square is the Sebilj (which translates to something like 'house on a way that offers water'), the most famous water fountain in Sarajevo, and the city symbol. Sarajevo nourishes a special respect for running fresh water, so it's no wonder this fountain is celebrated among locals. Some records say that Sarajevo used to have more than 300 such fountains, but most of them were destroyed in a fire in the 17th century. The famous Bascarsija Sebilj, build in 1913, managed to survive for more than 100 years.

Many would agree that the most beautiful part of Sarajevo is its Old Town, or 'Bascarsija' (literally, 'Main Market'). This Ottoman period neighborhood is the meeting point between East and West, where the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian architectural styles come together.

Located in the Old Town, the Brusa Bezistan Museum was built in 1551 by Vezier Rustem-Pasa, a government official and a leader in the silk industry. The building itself is beautiful, with six big and two small domes making up the roof. In addition to housing a museum, Bezistan has kept its original purpose as a marketplace where you can buy spices, handmade jewelry, and clothes. The museum itself, part of the permanent exhibition of the Sarajevo Museum, chronicles prehistory, antiquity, and the Middle Ages.

The Eternal Flame is a monument to the military and civilian victims of World War II. The inscription on the wall is a thank you from Sarajevo to all the citizens who gave their lives fighting fascism. The monument was officially revealed to the city on November 27, 1947. The flame has only gone out once, during the 1990s siege of Sarajevo. Lighting it up again after the war meant a lot to the city and its people.

Sarajevo City Hall (also the National Library of Bosnia and Herzegovina) is the most prominent building in Sarajevo. The City Hall was designed and built in the stunning Moorish Revival architectural style, and is a perfect example of the blend between Orient and Occident. While the building was destroyed during the war, it was recently renovated and reopened, with an interesting museum located in its basement.

Ferhadija Pedestrian Street The most crowded and attractive street in Sarajevo is certainly Ferhadija — the popular pedestrianized street which stretches from Vječna Vatra monument to Bascarsija. Although it borders with the Ottoman part of the city, this area features buildings from the Austro-Hungarian era and will give you a totally different experience to a stroll around Bascarsija. The street is always buzzing with people window-shopping or just enjoying a nice afternoon walk.
