The food and the views! This is THE best place to eat out in Vila Nova. Not the cheapest but the best. The menu is varied and truly fresh, flavoursome and delicious. Good wine list too. The service is lovely. The hostess Sofia is lovely and the chef gifted. Sit outside and just relish the moment. And your dinner!

A bit of an institution in the village. Good food. Beautiful decor. Good atmosphere. Very popular. Book it. I love their wine selection.

This place is (a hotel first and foremost) but it has a great restaurant serving a fantastic and varied menu - from pizzas to steak via a great buffet, which includes sushi! The bar has over 70 gins! Now the best bit about it...it has the most amazing views of the beach on both banks and the river estuary. You can simply lose yourself gazing out to sea. Go for lunch, dinner, coffee or your obligatory G&T.

This place has the most scrumptious cakes. The quality is exceptional and so is the variety. All made in the premises. You want cake that leaves you singing, then this is the place to come to.

The best beach around. Mind the waves though. Located 3-4 kms away from the village of Vila Nova this is one of my favourite beaches. It is wild. It is gorgeous. Take a packed lunch and plenty to drink. And a beach umbrella.

The best ice-cream! Ever. There are always queues. But hang in there. The ice-cream is proper.

Sightseeing
You cannot actually visit the castle but this is one of the village's landmarks, so it is not to be missed. There is a lovely square near it with an iconic statue honouring the pilots who took the first flight between Portugal an Macau. A little link to the country's history... And of course the views from the square are nothing short of incredible.

What can you say? You can rent a car here! Just kidding. We have used Europa a few times and the service has always been very good.
