Drinks & Nightlife

Great mountain bar. The food is a huge improvement from most bar food. No gross fried chicken fingers here. Real food made with fresh ingredients. The bar scene is great as well....locals, tourists, pool, pin ball!

The Beer Stube is located at Ski Bowl west and is one of our favorite places to hang out for an apres ski drink. You can sit in this old mountain hideaway and sip a drink while watching the skiers navigate the slopes.

Food Scene

This is place to go for huckleberry milkshakes and fries at 2 a.m. Other than midnight snacks, its a little overpriced and greasy for my taste. Descent breakfast. Great maple bars!

Great pizza. Good selection of microbrews. Family friendly. Above the Ratskellar is an arcade with games, etc. Fun for kiddos after a day on the slopes.

Great coffee, breakfast, pancakes ... all at reasonable prices. They even have an liquor license so you can get a cocktail later in the day, This is super casual, but a great place to hang out and drink a cup of coffee.

Brew Pub with typical pub food....hamburgers, pizza, etc. It is owned and operated by the Timberline folks so the food is great but it is not budget friendly. It can be quite crowded on busy weekends.

So I guess this is decent Mexican food. I'm a bit picky when it comes to Mexican fare, so I'm not a fan of their cooking. A lot of people love it, so it could just be that it's not for me.

Essentials

This is the only grocery store in Government Camp. They have a little bit of everything: groceries, gifts, liquor, wine, sundries, basic household, DVD rentals, etc. Things can be pricey. They also close at 8 p.m. so make sure you get there before 7:45 if you need anything.

If you really can't stomach the $6 orange juice at the Govy General, the closest real grocery store is in the Welches about 10 miles down the mountain. They have it all, including growlers to go, but still at slightly-higher-than-retail pricing.

We love Grocery Outlet! What's not to love about last-seasons-movie-branded Cap't Crunch and unheard of brands of cheese at ridiculously low prices. Try the pumpkin ice cream in January or giant tubs of Minions branded Nutella at 1/10 the price. Look for great deals on name brand items (Hellmans or Best Foods Mayo, Grey Poupon Mustard) strangely packaged at crazy prices. It's fun to explore the isles and see what they have. Swing by here on the way up the mountain.

Simply beautiful! Constructed from 1936 to 1938 by the Works Progress Administration, it was built and furnished by local artisans during the Great Depression. Timberline Lodge was dedicated September 28, 1937, by President Franklin D. Roosevelt.

Entertainment & Activities

Great night skiing, although my kids joke that the lifts are "from the 50's." They have a fun tubing park. Make sure you visit the Warming Hut at the top of the lift at Ski Bowl west for food and an amazing panoramic view of Mt. Hood.

This is a world class ski resort. It's a bit of a drive (9 miles) from Government Camp but it's worth it. On a busy weekend, make sure you are leaving the resort by 3 p.m. or you could get stuck in horrible traffic getting back to the condo. We also like to park in the front lot so we don't have to shuttle bus it everywhere. If you want that prime parking, arrive at Meadows no later than 8:15 am. They also have a great Nordic Center for cross country skiing.
