Quieter than Vila Nova, Zambujeira attracts a backpacker, surfy crowd, though in August the town is a party place and hosts the massive music fest, Festa do Sudoeste. The high-season crowds obscure Zambujeira’s out-of-season charms: fresh fish in family-run restaurants, blustering clifftop walks and a dramatic, empty coast.

Quieter than Vila Nova, Zambujeira attracts a backpacker, surfy crowd, though in August the town is a party place and hosts the massive music fest, Festa do Sudoeste. The Praia do Malhão is wide open sandy beach just over 5km to the north of Vila Nova de Milfontes. Set within the Southwest Alentejo Natural Park development here is prohibited so this is as wild and unspoiled beach as you will find on this coast.
This beach will appeal to beachgoers seeking a relatively remote spot with plenty of empty space not those expecting all the facilities close at hand. There are no cafes, lifeguards or sun-loungers here, just endless sand. What you will often find here are a handful fishermen and towards the northern end of the beach a few naturists.

The Praia do Malhão is wide open sandy beach just over 5km to the north of Vila Nova de Milfontes. Set within the Southwest Alentejo Natural Park development here is prohibited so this is as wild and unspoiled beach as you will find on this coast.

This is a mixture of a baker's and a grocery store, and of course it gets packed at certain times of the day, but that's no reason to avoid it in any way!
If you go for the sweets and cakes, please control yourself, of you won't resist a single one! We love this place the cakes are amazing, so fresh and beautiful and very reasonably priced. They also have Savory pastries like Duck pies and Chicken Pies, puff pastries, sandwiches and and soups. The service is also very good with very friendly and helpful staff and you don't have to wait long either, plus the actual Cafe Ambiance is very nice.

The egg yolk is served raw and by mixing it into the dough with coriander and garlic, the dough and the egg become creamy. The queen of the desserts is sericaia but homemade chocolate mousse and crème caramel competently summon up the kitchens of the past. The service is friendly and eficiente.
