Baker Mtn is the easiest hike of the Saranac 6'ers family of mountains and compared to the High Peaks. Its a steady 0.9 mile climb with approx. 1000 ft elevation gain to the 2,452 ft summit. It never stays too steep for too long. If you're new to hiking mountains, give yourself a few hours and take your time. Trust me - its worth the effort. Fit hikers can usually get to the top in under an hour.

Running right through town with multiple access points in Saranac Lake, the former railroad track has been cleared for a nice, flat walking or bicycling excursion from Lake Placid through to Tupper Lake. In winter it is used for xc skiing or snowmobiling.

This 3.8 mile route was originally a railroad bed, so its wide, straight, and level throughout, making it perfect for bicycles or strollers. From downtown Saranac Lake take Rt 3 east. Go straight at the 4 way stop sign in Bloomingdale for almost 2 miles. Look for parking on either side of the road; the trailhead is on the left.
Just fyi.....some of the songbirds are so used to people that they come really close to you.
