Favorite place for a picnic

Pictured above is Lowman park, it is a five minute walk down the hill and offers some pretty amazing views of the Olympic National Park mountain range and some dreamy islands in between (Vashon is to your left and Blake Island, a state park, is middle, Bainbridge is to the right). Bring the picnic basket (above the fridge) and sit out on the grass. If you walk past Lowman park you can get onto the waterfront trail that leads you through Lincoln park. This is a great running spot in the morning or a place to stroll in the evening with your dog. Continue up the hill and you will be in Lincoln park proper with trails through the trees, along the bluff, benches and picnic spots, athletic fields and plenty more.

Food scene

This is the main strip in West Seattle. There are some great shops and restaurants, vinyl shops, coffee, dumplings, crafts, and books. Stroll along a couple of blocks and see all there is to see. Maybe not quite walking distance unless you're in training, but only about a five-minute drive.

By far our favorite pizza so far in West Seattle. Awesome inside and they have an actual brick oven pizza in the kitchen.

Low key Mediterranean. They started as a food truck, and it shows. Not much on decor, but all about the food is a great take-out option to bring home or to a park.

If you're up to a 10-minute drive and like a great breakfast burrito and a fresh cup of coffee, you should do this! It's our favorite breakfast spot around.

Local Grocery, Deli

Another great to-go option if you’re looking for something to enjoy outside. Great sandwiches, creative names, and combos. Kind of an old-school bodega place with foods from around the world, maybe some hard-to-find olives or pickled fish. They also have great ice cream that they have been making fresh for much longer than most of us have been alive.

A total joy to shop at. Well-prepared food, nice wine/beer/liquor selection, stellar produce, and everything else. Not too cheap, but you might find yourself back there more than once. Look for the individual take-and-bake cookies!

Not much to look at from the street but the closest grocery store (walking distance if you don’t need to carry too much). Great inside with a good deli and tons of good produce and amazing cheeses.

Bars, Beer, Wine

Also within walking distance, this has a cozy inside with corners and eclectic chairs to sink into, a massive beer list, and a sprawling outdoor area for nicer days.

A cute little wine room off of California Avenue that does a lovely wine, cheese, and light meal menu. Would recommend making reservations during the summer months!

If you like a fancy cocktail as much as we do, check out Il Nido at Alkali Beach. It's inside a 100-year-old log cabin, with a quaint bar scene and delicious Italian eats.

Sightseeing

This can be the main tourist draw for West Seattle and a little crowded in the summer. Head over, and you can see why. Probably the only proper beach in city limits, also a beachfront promenade with bars and restaurants with some pretty amazing views of Puget Sound and the city. Parking can be tight, so either head back a few blocks into the neighborhood or rent an e-scooter or bike to get there. If you follow Beach Drive (down by Lowman Park), it is a flat cruise along the water to get there.
