Farther Afield / Day Trips

Georgia O'Keeffe fans will love the tiny town of Abiquiu, where you can tour Georgia O'Keeffe's charming home preserved as she left it (reservations are a must). While you're there walk through Bosshard's Gallery and St. Thomas' Church. Dine at Abiquiu Inn or pick up lunch at Bode's General Store. A few miles North on 64 is the Echo Amphitheater, a lovely picnic spot in a unique geological formation. Farther along, about 15 miles north of Abiquiu is Ghost Ranch, where Georgia also lived and painted. You can take tours or just enjoy the scenery. Four miles east of Abiquiu is the White Place that Georgia liked to paint, and a good place for an easy hike through the sandstone cliffs.
