Parks & Nature
Start across from the Community Centre on the main road. The Trailhead is well marked by signage. This short hike is great for kids or people who want a less strenuous walk. Hike 1.5 km to the coast on an easy trail past a pond, a fairy forest and dramatic coastline. This trail comes out immediately across from Baccalieu Island Ecological Reserve. Lots of picnic tables and benches along the way.
Red Head Cove
Start across from the Community Centre on the main road. The Trailhead is well marked by signage. This short hike is great for kids or people who want a less strenuous walk. Hike 1.5 km to the coast on an easy trail past a pond, a fairy forest and dramatic coastline. This trail comes out immediately across from Baccalieu Island Ecological Reserve. Walkable from Birch Hills Cottage. Walk up Birch Hills Road and follow it around the loop to Kingston where it is called Marsh Road. Turn right onto Church Road and follow to the end. Cross the main highway and look for the road down to Spout Cove on your left (only a few feet). Spout Cove is a resettled community and you can still see the remains of a couple of houses and foundations there. There is a beautiful beach at the bottom of the hill on your left before you reach the houses. There is an old cemetery on the hill, or for a longer hike, you can continue to follow the track to Perry's Cove (trail can be wet in places).
