Coffee & Cafés

Great local coffee shop run by a couple that are an active part of the local Guadalupe community. Small open space with some seating though it’s limited. They are very well respected for the quality of their coffee and they are also one of the only spots in town that offer a variety of brewing techniques. Their cold brew and house roast actually supply many of the coffee shops in town. Pro tip: -Try the baked goods which I believe are normally baked by the mrs of the shop for an extra tasty treat -Grab some beans to go and use the pour over or French press which are in your Airbnb’s kitchen for some quality coffee enjoyed at home.

The TOP spot to get some work done in town. Simple, clean atmosphere meets genuinely good people and dare I say even better coffee.... I’m no vegan/vegetarian but I have to say that sometimes I opt for La Cabra’s food options anyways because they’re just good. Who knew homemade potato cheese could be thrilling. Pro tip: I legitimately crave the vegan brownie which I’m told is garbanzo based. Try it cold as warm changes the texture too much. Many prefer the vegan chocolate chip cookie which is also good.

It’s probably one of the more touristically Ramos coffee spots however it’s really just to-go only. I like the cold capuchino which is very unique but a bit sweet otherwise their coffee is average. That being said, their iced tea and unique tea infusions are rather refreshing. The original location is an actual restaurant but they won’t let you work there so their “coffee shop” is just a window that always has a line. The restaurant itself is someplace I’ve only tried once but I hear they have some sort of egg cheese scramble concoction that’s supposed to be delicious. The second location is by the artisan market and again is just for to-go orders. Pro tip: For all my coffee fiends, this is the only spot in town with a punch card.

Food scene

The best of the higher end options. If the picture doesn’t make it clear it’s right next to the parroquia. Try the duck dumplings for me. Pro tip: Go at sunset to catch the golden hour glow that reflects off of the parroquia. This side of the parroquia is where the best selfies/ Insta pics are taken because the light is at you and not behind you.

Low price point with great value for what you pay for. An absolute locals spot and one of the oldest spots in town. Catch everyone in town from high end restaurant owners to retired expats enjoying the Tostada Tuesday 2 for 1 tostadas but remember to bring pesos as its efectivo only. Pro tip: the mar y tierra tacos are where it’s at along with the steamed artichoke... or go for the tostadas, either the atún especial, tinga de pollo (but eat it first before the tortilla gets too soft), or ceviche blanco. A mezcalita never hurt neither.

Mid range price point on one of the most photographed streets in San Miguel, Callejón del Pueblito. You can taste the love and care that the Jacques brothers have put into their fresh and uber locally sourced ingredients. They also support a local natural winery. Grab some brunch and some pics of the classically San Miguel street, overgrown with Bugambilias.

A quality higher end option with an intimate and well cared for atmosphere. The menu changes seasonally but there was a time when the pasta with the octopus and egg was to die for. Pro tip: I’m very into The Lord Don’t Stop cocktail though I’ve been told it’s not for everyone. Gin meets Prosecco and grapefruit for a gloriously fresh cocktail.

Located in proper Centro, with average pricing. The dark and clean atmosphere is accompanied by fresh food and fun drinks like prehispánica pulque. Pro trip: The guerra chile or yellow chili margarita is spicy deliciousness
