Another amazing reserve similar to the one in Rye Harbour but possibly even more dramatic, sitting as it does jutting out into the English Channel with a power station at its side.

Located in Rye Harbour, not accessible by cars, foot and bikes only, passing the church to your left. A mystical ‘deserted’ castle in the middle of the fields some mile or so from the sea. Originally built by Henry VIII in 1539 as a coastal fort to repel the annoying Frenchies, it was abandoned some 80 years later as the seas started to retreat.

Rye Nook is located just before Rye Harbour on the right hand side as you enter the village. Even if you don’t fish it’s worth hunting it out as it’s really very pretty. A number of lakes of varying sizes surrounded by mature trees, reeds and other vegetation. Stuffed full of fish, Rye Nook is a mixed fishery that’s home to some huge specimen fish including carp to 30lb+, bream to 4lb, tench to 8lb and more (we’ve never caught one!). Rye Nook consists of four lakes which in total cover over 100 acres. Buy your ticket (a few pounds) from the Village store or Sue’s Tackle Cabin.

They run two types of boat the RIB and the Thundercat, designed as a life saving surf rescue craft in Australia. As a result they are designed to cope with a huge variety of sea conditions from flat calm lakes to large breaking surf and as a result offer extreme fun. They can offer you just a quick blast on the Thundercats or a full package for groups of four or more. They also offer RIB charters to Eastbourne marina which is only 20 miles away with its restaurants and bars great for a Saturday lunch.

In action 24/7. Meet the brave lifeboat men at the station as it opens up most weekends. Staffed by people from the village the tractor and boat are guaranteed to captivate your children. If you ask nicely they might even let them sit in the boat. They are full of interesting stories for all ages and always full of information about the conditions and boating. Please don’t leave without joining up to the RNLI charity. The children will receive a badge in the post and a monthly newsletter. The place to get the local tide timetables, essential for fishing and knowing what the beaches are going to be doing. A number of times a year we get an especially high tide that virtually ‘swamps’
