City Information

What to do around Dubuque and the surrounding areas.
Dubuque, IA has endless things to offer visitors. This city is filled with some of the friendliest people you'll meet. The midwest-nice is a real thing! Although there are endless things I could mention about what makes Dubuque a great city to visit, here are a few. Depending on any season you choose to visit, Dubuque has something for you! 1. December - February are the main winter months for Dubuque. You will typically experience cold weather with snow. Check out Sundown Mountain just 15 minutes away from our Bluff home or Chestnut Mountain just 45 minutes away. 2. March - May are the main months for Spring time. There is often mud due to melting snow and spring showers, but you can enjoy your day biking or walking anywhere along Heritage trail. 3. June - August are the main months for Summer time. Weather is warm with lots of sunshine! Visit the American Lady for a tour on the Mississippi River or go for a hike at the Mines of Spain. 4. September - November are the months of Fall. You will enjoy the opportunity to experience the leaves beginning to change color. Peak time to see the color change is October 10th. Go for a day drive to Bellevue to enjoy the colors. Visit an apple orchard or pumpkin patch if you're visiting before Halloween.

Galena is a quaint little town in northwest Illinois just 25 minutes from our Bluff home. Galena is known for its well-preserved 19th-century buildings like the 1826 Dowling House. The Italianate Ulysses S. Grant Home was a gift from local citizens to the Civil War general who later became a U.S. president. Horseshoe Mound, on the outskirts of Galena, offers views of three states. Other mounds, thought to be ancient ceremonial sites, can be seen at Casper Bluff. Enjoy a casual walk on main street while you can enjoy a beverage, visit several restaurants, and shop the boutiques and unique stores the town has to offer. During the summer time, Galena will shut down the main street to traffic to allow restaurant seating outdoors throughout the street. Kayak the Galena River on a beautiful summer day. For a nice steak dinner, try the Log Cabin. For sushi lovers, try Little Tokyo. Grad an after dinner drink at the Grape Escape - they offer numerous martinis. Be sure to grab a cinnamon roll during breakfast at Otto's.

My Favorite Breakfast Spots

Who doesn’t love breakfast? Here’s what I recommend when visiting.
For breakfast and a cup of coffee, check out my favorite coffee shop in town. Saturday mornings there will typically be a line so be sure to go with enough time. Favorites on the menu include a traditional acai bowl with peanut butter and honey, breakfast panini, and a dirty vanilla chai latte.
