Beach

The Tees Valley has a dramatic coastline, glorious sandy beaches and charming seaside towns to discover. From Saltburn to Redcar to Seaton Carew – miles of golden sand is interspersed with rocky headlands, sea cliffs and sand dunes making a visit to the Tees Valley coast an unforgettable one. If you are visiting in the summer season, you can enjoy all the seaside essentials from delicious fish and chips, traditional arcades and a stroll along the longest remaining pleasure pier on the North East Coast at Saltburn-by-the-Sea. No trip to the seaside is complete without an ice cream, so finish your day with the local ice cream – the Lemon Top, a cone filled with delicious vanilla ice cream topped with a lemon sorbet – head to Pacitto’s on Redcar seafront for an original. For a day at the coast at a slower pace head to the secret, secluded beaches of Marske-by-the-Sea and Skinningrove which provide an escape from the crowds (just don’t tell too many people about them!) The beaches aren’t only worth a visit in summer. Many are dog friendly during the autumn and winter months and are perfect for a bracing walk, you can add some activity by catching some waves on a surfboard or paddleboard or keep an eye out for an array of wildlife in all seasons.
