Sightseeing

This seaside walk goes from Whitehead Boat Club to and around Blackhead Lighthouse. The path runs northeast from Whitehead and is lined by interesting wildlife habitats including grassland, woodland (known locally as the 'Magic Forest') and a rocky shoreline. There are a few sea caves, one with a very interesting story about a local school teacher who actually lived in one. There's some written information along the path which will tell you more!

Whitehead is the nearest town. You can drive or walk to it from The Pink Cottage. The walk is a breathtaking traffic free walk along the stunning coastal path. It will take you around 30 to 40 minutes to reach the promenade. If you need a coffee by then, call in at The Bankhouse for coffee, homemade cake, soups and beautiful local gifts. Local artists have some amazing work for sale too! There’s a beautiful outdoor garden and sometimes they have local musicians playing. Call 02893353021 just to check opening hours. Whitehead is a Victorian home by the sea, on the sunny coast of County Antrim between Belfast Lough and Larne Lough. Easy access to the stunning Coast Road leading to the Giant's Causeway and Bushmills, or a short train journey or 16 mile drive to Belfast. The recently reopened Gobbins Cliff Path is a couple of miles away. Whitehead has many amenities, including a thriving local arts and crafts community, local shops, and Traditional Irish musicians playing on most Thursday evenings in one of our two pubs.

Take a walk in the footsteps of giants! A site of World Heritage and therefore ranked alongside Mount Everest and the Giant Redwoods of California for it’s importance to humankind. Volcanic activity helped Finn Mc Cool (the legendary giant) forge this wonder of the world some 60 million years ago. It is today the habitat of rare plants and animals. From the Pink Cottage its a 1hr 45min (63 miles) drive along the stunning east Antrim coast via The Glens of Antrim. I would definitely recommend booking in advance -https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/giants-causeway

The Dairy does beautiful breakfasts, lunches and some evenings (check website) and has a farm shop with locally grown produce. It was once a fully functioning creamery and dairy established back in 1933 on this very site. The Dairy has been a prominent part of the community in Gleno throughout the years, having served as a number of different functions in it’s time and now operates as a farm store, butchers and cafe. I do recommend booking! https://www.thedairygleno.com/
