Thorpe lies to the east of the pier. A more tranquil area with beach huts and easily accessed beaches. An area of expensive houses with views across the Thames. Check the tide if you want to swim. A walk out on the mud is pleasant but take care as the tide returns swiftly and can surround you.

Parking is away from the pier either in car parks at the top of pier hill or on the roadside to the west of the pier. Either will be on a meter.
