Where to swim...
Obviously, being on an Island you are surrounded by Sea and there are so many Lagoons and Beaches where you can dive into the Sea... But here we just want to suggest a few options which are directly accessible from Vela Luka.
A popular Spot is the POSEJDON HOTEL with it’s Beach Bar. You can walk there around the Bay, or you can catch a Taxi-Boat which departs right from the Gas Station and takes you right across to the Hotel. Latest Price was 1-1,50 € depending on the Operator – They usually wear a West with the Hotel Name on it. They run very frequently forth and back, the ride takes a few minutes.
Right on the Parking lot at the Gas station. -

Vela spila is located on the southern side of Pinski Rat Mountain, 130 m above the cove of Kale in Vela Luka and is one of the most important prehistoric archaeological localities in Europe.
You can walk up from the Apartment. We are Pinski Rat Mountain :) You should see a sign along the street or ask someone.

The Hum lies south of the deep bay of Zaliv Vela Luka, at the eastern end of which lies the village of Vela Luka. A paved road or footpath leads from Vela Luka up the hill, which is wooded or covered with macchia on its slopes.
At the highest point of the mountain are the ruins of a fortress ("Forteca"), which was built during the Austro-Hungarian rule in the 19th century and today only fragments survive. From the viewing platform of the ruins, where at least in earlier years there was also a forest fire observation station, the view in clear weather extends over the bay of Vela Luka and large parts of the island to the Dalmatian mainland.
It is quite a walk up there. So please be mindful of that and pick the morning or late afternoon. Avoid the midday heat and wear good shoes !
