In the hill of Kastritsa, a 15 minute drive from the city, you will find the ruins of the ancient city of Tekmon and a monastery. Tekmon was second largest city of the ancient Greek tribe of Mollosoi, where King Pyrros ruled (known from the term "pyrrhic victory" from his costly victory against the Romans). It was also the birthplace of Alexander the Great's mother, named Olympia. It has fantastic views and is a wonderful and peaceful place to walk around and explore.

Traffic is usually quite heavy in the city's few main roads, as the city is rather small, so discovering it on foot is advised. If you are for alcoholic drinks, prepare to taste the local "tsipouro" that comes from wines and is always served with small and free dishes of food called "mezes".
