Best known as the location for the filming of Heartbeat. Some of the buildings used are easily recognised to the visitor. The Moorland village is also home to one of the train stops for the North York Moors railway. It is possible to do an easy level walk from Goathland to Grosmont or vice versa and catch the steam train in the opposite direction. The railway station was used in the filming of Harry Potter. There are also a collection of small waterfalls in the area for the walker who seeks them out. Cafes, tearooms and pubs and the excellent Mallyan Spout Hotel for the special meal or snack.
