The Luquillo kiosks (or kioskos) are a much loved part of Puerto Rico. This long row of humble (think almost ramshackle) buildings are right on Route 3 along the beach in Luquillo. But don’t let their appearance discourage you — stop in and you will be in for an experience that is uniquely Puerto Rican. Something for Everyone The Luquillo kiosks are about 60 different places, each of them are numbered and many of them are named. A few sell souvenirs (like Monkey Threads #30, and Studio Coco #13), some are specialty bars (like Tattoo Tavern #17 and Mojito Lab (in lot before #42) and some are vacant. But most of these kiosks sell food and drinks. Some of these places have been run by the same family for over 20 years, while others are brand new and recently opened. It is hard to say which ones are the best — it all depends on what you feel like eating! But most people will eventually have a favorite — just ask a local and you’ll find out for yourself! One really cool thing about the kiosks is that they are fun and casual, with open air dining. One side of the restaurants opens to the parking lot and Route 3, and on a number of them they are open toward the beach as well. So some have a beach view, while others do not. One place even made a rooftop seating area! You can stop by for a simple snack or just an ice-cold beer, or take some time and enjoy a "real" nice, sit-down meal. Or just bar hop and skip the food, if you can resist! A number of places will have live music in the evenings (especially on weekend nights). There are even a few with pool tables. Stop in and enjoy, but don’t bother to get dressed up — come as you are and relax. Rice & Beans, Italian, Mexican, Peruvian … Oh My! The 60 kiosks (actually, there are a few less) are very different and range in style, taste and price. You can get humble local fried goodies like bacalaítos, alcapurrias, pastelillos/empanadillas or even rice & beans, and a cold beer, for just a few bucks. You can also get much more unusual things like Pizza, local/Caribbean fusion, Chinese, Italian, and even Peruvian food. This mixing of the new cuisine and the classic Puerto Rican food kiosk now offers something for everyone. The places without liquor licenses even allow you to BYOB or, if you want, just stop into one place to pick up an alcoholic beverage to go with your meal at another place. TESTIMONIALS 2 months ago  I don't give out many five star reviews, because most places can stand a little improvement. And while that may be so here, the food more than makes up for any perceived shortcomings. This is the only one of the highly recommended restaurants we visited during this stay in Old San Juan, that I can say the food was simply outstanding. Service was good, the vibe was totally Puerto Rico, and each dish was unique and made with obvious care. Move this place to the top of your list, and don't miss the garlic sauce! - Tammy & 4 months ago  Went for lunch Saturday. Very crowded but the wait was only 10 minutes. Service, food and price were excellent. The waiter recommended chicken in garlic sauce. It was cooked to perfection and the serving was way more than I could eat. My wife had the baked salmon and loved it. - gary s 3 months ago  By far, one of my favorite restaurants on the island. No fancy views but some of the best food (and a well stocked bar). Just over the bridge from Old San Juan and Puerta de Tierra, Condado is one of Puerto Rico's most fashionable places to call home. Cartier, Louis Vuitton, and Ferragamo are among the names you'll see on the storefronts here. Sophisticated bistros and restaurants draw lively crowds at night, and the beach is always popular. Interestingly, Condado's hotels don't follow the high-end trend; you can find great deals that put you in the heart of San Juan's ritziest neighborhood.

This is one of Puerto Rico’s most beautiful and remote beaches, recognized among the best of the Caribbean. It is located very close to Los Morrillos Lighthouse, so you can plan a visit to both attractions on the same day. La Playuela is a crescent shaped beach, with soft white sand, and blue turquoise water. Generally, the waves are gentle, but please be careful if you move to a deeper area given there are no lifeguards on site. In this paradisiacal beach there are no facilities of any kind, so you must bring drinks, snacks, chairs and umbrellas, and everything you might need to spend a day at the beach. Do not forget to pick up your trash and deposit it in the cans located at the exit of the beach. La Playuela is very popular among residents of Puerto Rico so during the weekends and holidays it can become very crowded. The recommendation is that you visit during weekdays or arrive early on weekends to ensure you find a spot to park and a space between trees to enjoy the shade.

Whether you are into surfing, jet skiing, or just lounging on calm waves and enjoying the sun, Puerto Rico has a beach, or three, for you. Playa Sucia, Cabo Rojo Natural Feature Share Add to Plan View of Playa Sucia from the Cabo Rojo Lighthouse | View of Playa Sucia from the Cabo Rojo Lighthouse Remote, rustic and so very scenic, La Playuela (more commonly known as Playa Sucia, which is a misnomer as Bahia Sucia is farther inland) can be a challenge to get to as you drive down dirt roads through the Salt Flats and the wildlife refuge, but it is worth every bump and pothole when you get there. As you face the turquoise water of the bay, Faro Los Morillos (Cabo Rojo Lighthouse) is on the cliffs to your right. Walk along the soft sand to the other side of the bay and hike to the top of the cliffs and walk out onto the natural bridge for some incredible photo opportunities. Around October and November, you may see areas cordoned off where sea turtles have laid their eggs. And during the low season, if you go on a weekday, you may have some time when you have the entire beach to yourself; the crowds are bigger on weekends and during the traditional spring break months of February and March. During those times you may be able to buy helado or a freshly made mojito. The surf depends on the time of the month and the weather, but it is always kind. As stated, it is very rustic, so there are no picnic tables, benches or restroom facilities—plan accordingly. There are trash receptacles at the start of the trail to the beach, so bring some bags. There are no fees for parking or entry. More Info Playa Boquerón, Boquerón Boquerón Beach is part of the Parque Nacional Balneario Boquerón and is a wonderful place for a family day outdoors. Soft sand and shallow blue waters make it a perfect swim area for children, and even after Hurricane Maria, there are many trees for shade. The park has public restrooms and showers, but they are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays during the low season. The park also has over 100 cabins and villas that are rentable at reasonable rates if you want to make it an extended stay; it is a very popular thing to do over the new year. The cabins sleep about six to eight people and have a bathroom and kitchen with a stove so that you can cook. Parking is included if you are staying there, but if you just want to go for the day and do not want to pay for parking, you can park just outside of the park gates and walk in. During the high season, there are also vendors down the beach renting out jet skis, water bikes, kayaks and other fun activities. Take a short walk down the path into Boquerón and enjoy some great seafood or a burger and a mojito.

Install Puerto Rico Things To Do The Most Beautiful Beaches in Puerto Rico Spectacular beaches in Puerto Rico | © Breezy Baldwin / Flickr Kris Pethick 11 January 2018 Add to Plan Puerto Rico is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean on the north and the Caribbean Sea on the south, and those waters meet in the middle of the east and west, creating the most beautiful beaches. Located in the Hacienda la Esperanza Natural Reserve in Manatí and steps from the famous Poza De Las Mujeres you can find this wonderful work of nature. To get there you must cross beautiful paths composed of various ecosystems such as forests and mangroves and which will take you about 5 minutes.  The cave is a segmented sand formation that serves as a home for swallows and bats in some seasons of the year. It has been used in filming movies and is frequented by many adventurers like us. To enter the cave, its water level is about 4 feet deep. But be careful, this can vary or become dangerous depending on the weather. On many occasions the sea is rough and we want to avoid accidents. I always say that "you have to enjoy everything that nature gives us but always with great respect." On this occasion we could not enter. If you want to continue exploring later you will find another beautiful and small beach. Remember always take care of these places, they're ours!

Natural Reserve

The Cabo Rojo National Wildlife Refuge reserve is a subtropical dry forest in the coastal region covering 1,836 acres of land. The refuge, established in 1974 and one of nine reserves managed by the Caribbean Islands National Wildlife Refuge Complex (United States Fish and Wildlife Service), is a paradise for people who enjoy hiking and birdwatching. The refuge has been designated as the critical habitat of the yellow-shoulder blackbird and is the first place in the Caribbean to be designated as a site in the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network. The Cabo Rojo Salt Flats, whose beautiful pink and red tones contrast with the turquoise color of the Playuela, are also part of the refuge and have been recognized as an important wildlife habitat. The famous salt flats are an interesting stop for visitors. Start at the informative visitor's center, which has a viewing deck, and hiking trails. There are also guided tours available with advance reservation. The visitor's center operates from Thursday to Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
