A great local attraction. Run by volunteers, the sanctuary has around 100 donkeys and other wildlife. There is a gift shop and café, a bric a brac shop, and a number of opportunities for people to donate through our donation boxes. People adopt donkeys and in so doing become ‘members’ of the sanctuary, in that they get regular information about the progress and activities of the donkeys and activities on site. You can drive, walk or cycle from your accommodation.

If you're staying for a few days, maybe take the hovercraft from Ryde Esplanade and pop over to Southsea and Old Portsmouth for a day out. The hovercraft was (of course) conceived on the Isle of Wight by Sir Christopher Cockerell, back in the 1950/60s. the Ryde/Southsea service is one of the few commercial passenger Hovercraft services in the world.

Known as the Isle of Wight Riviera, this Victorian hidden gem is a must. Drive down to the seafront. There are car parks at either end. There are great walks in both directions and the town boast some excellent eateries. If you love seafood, The Smoking Lobster is an absolute must. Also the Spyglass Inn is a great venue for an impromptu meal or drink. Ventnor also offers a number of great eateries and The Royal Hotel, one of only two 4* hotels on the island.

You can take a 'flat walk' from the pier at Ryde Esplanade, all the way to Seaview along the beach side revetment. Appley Beach offers endless sands and shallow bathing. There are a number of eateries in the area during the day and evening. The Duck, by the old canoe lake, is run by one of the island's top chefs, Charlie Bartlett, or The Three Buoys overlooking The Solent and the passing cruise liners and container ships. Also DELLS Café, also accessible from Puckpool Park car park, which forms part of the old 'battery' defences at the entrance to The Solent.

Another one of the Island's hidden beach-side gems. Run by talented local chef Emma & her husband John, this place serves up some amazing local seafood. Offering such delights as IW crab and lobster, giant crevettes, garlic prawns & simple IW crab sandwiches. All washed down with a glass of something chilled. It’s all about seafood here. Its one of my favorites and is always worth a visit. Good local parking, may require a short walk. Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence 2019
