Food Scene

This coffee shop is a perfect pit stop if you're walking the footpaths from the cottage, or is a very short drive, set at the edge of national trust land which spans the beaches and coves around Pennard and towards neighbouring Penmaen. The café is ideal for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves wonderful homemade cakes. They also welcome dogs and muddy boots, so is perfect for after your day exploring. The well stocked shop has everything you need, from eco friendly washing up liquid, to local cheeses and homemade hummus.

The best Sunday lunch in Gower. A cosy bar with a roaring log fire, or dine in the restaurant for bigger groups, this is a firm favourite. Craft beers, extensive wine list, and all homecooked delicious food. Very reasonably priced, and a perfect pit stop if you're out exploring Cefn Bryn or the Gower way- there is even a spot on the hill to tie up your horses if you're out hacking.

This place is fantastic. Great food served all day- and fabulous views over Langland bay. My absolute favourite place to sit with a glass of wine watching the sunset at high tide, listening to the sea. Outdoor dining is all year round thanks to the covered deck with heaters.

Fabulous five star dining- perfect for a special occasion. The views over Oxwich are beautiful, the service and food are excellent. Always faultless- and Hywel the head chef has appeared on the great british menu twice, and has earned a michelin star.

A lunchtime favourite. Always excellent- a varied italian menu, and everything is freshly made on the premises. Try the filled focaccia, or the pasta- and do not leave without trying the custard slices- they are the best in world!

Drinks & Nightlife

There are so many lovely restaurants- La Parilla, Bistrot Pierre, Castellemare, Munch of Mumbles, Patricks are all excelent choices to spend an evening with great food and wine. Patricks do a great set menu in the evening and have a relaxing and elegant lounge area for drinks and cocktails- and always fantastic friendly service. A 10 minute drive from the cottage, easy to get a taxi and great views over the sea from most of the restaurants.

Sightseeing

Voted britains view in polls, this is an absolute must see. National trust members can park for free. Walk to 'the worm', explore the surrounding area of rhosili, visit the national trust gift shop for souveniers and grab a delicious lunch with a spectacular view in the bay bistro. It can get quite busy during peak season, our favourite time to walk there is early evening when you can avoid the day crowds. I have spent much of my childhood exploring here and still find new paths and coves ocassionally! An official AONB (are of national beuaty) it was the first area in the UK to recieve this designation,

You can walk to the beach from the cottage. Turn left out of the property gate and walk along the road until you get to the church. Cross over, and follow the lane (widegate) down the hill until you come to a wooden gate with a footpath sign, leading into woods on your left. Follow the track down to the river. Turn left at the river to go through a meadow towards bishopston, see the old lime kilns and quarry. Walk up the valley to the pub. Alternatively, turn right and find a path leading along the river bank to Pwll Du bay. Walk all the way around, up into Southgate village to the coffee shop. There are so may routes to take- each one a beautiful walk.

Voted Britains best view- the view shown in the photo here is the view from the ruin of Pennard castle- easily reached from the cottage. Either follow the footpath to Pwll Du and walk back up through the fields behind the local school to cross over to the burrows which lead to the castle (around a 2 mile beautiful walk) or jump in the car and drive 2 minutes- you can park in the school car park. There are so many routes down the actual beach- you can walk down from the castle, or down towards Pobbles bay and around the headland, or all the way down to Pennard cliffs and down the sand dunes. All lovely walks, all leading to the beach. Please be aware there is an extreme rip tide at Three cliffs- do not swim out of your depth here.
