Local restaurants
Casual italian and bar food. Close to home. Their subs are a little bland for my taste but the italian dishes and pizza are delicious. You'll often find us there for half price wine on Wednesdays! After hours (their bar) is a very friendly, blue collar, neighborhood bar. Sit at the bar and meet the locals.

Southend is full of breweries, restaurants and a distillery or two. The light rail stops near several clusters of restaurants/bars but the entire neighborhood is too spread out to be walkable so you'll need uber or a car if you want something not near a stop. Mecklenburg Brewery is probably the most popular in this area.

Mecklenburg Brewery is probably the most popular in this area.
Downtown Charlotte is called "uptown". There are great restaurants and bars including two rooftop bars. Merchant and Tade is more upscale and often has a line waiting to get to the roof. Farenheight is also upscale but it is on the roof of a resdiential building so the bar area tends to be more casual and the restaurant area more upscale. The bar here feels to me a little more touristy but it IS a great place for a selfie!
The NASCAR Hall of Fame, The Mint Museum and a couple of theaters are uptown.

Charlotte center city

See the U.S. National Whitewater Center
The USNWC is worth seeing if you have time and are into outdoor fun. Even if you don't "do" any of the activities it is fun to just hang out, walk around,have a meal and drink and people watch. It costs $6 to park but entry into the venue is free excluding activities. https://usnwc.org/

Take the lightrail into Charlotte.
If you are going to uptown, NoDa, Southend, the lightrail is a fun way to get there. Parking at UNC Charlotte is free and easy. CATS (Charlotte area transit system) is the entier bus and rail system. LYNX is the lightrail portion of that system. You will want to check the website for the LYNX blue line.
