Review: Beautiful people, beautiful food and great coffee!! Once we discovered the cafe we had 6 days left on our holiday and we spent 4 mornings there for breakfast. The food was incredible, tried something new everyday! Everyone working there is lovely and so helpful. The theme is great, makes for a really great atmosphere!! Highly recommend going at least once because you will definitely go back

Early birds start the day here with an espresso and a fresh croissant or bagel piled with cream cheese. Or take a tray and stroll past the vast selection of tapas, salad, a variety of cured meats like the kosher pastrami, imported and local charcuterie and smoked salmon to create your own lunch or stock up for a picnic. They have one of the best selections of pickled and cured fish such as chopped herring, rollmops, Danish herring and gefilte fish (fish balls), all made on the premises. Those with a sweet tooth will delight in their traditional Jewish and other pastries, and the cheesecake is to die for. For crunchy preservative and trans fat-free melba toast – take home a bag of their wafer thin bagel chips.

A true hidden gem located in a quiet part of the CBD. The restaurant has an authentic trattoria feel. Memorabilia and photos adorn the walls of the compact spaces and flickering candles add to the warm ambiance. The restaurant is small and popular so a reservation is important.

Parks & Nature

The Company’s Garden is Cape Town’s green lung. This oasis right in the centre of the city is a favourite for both locals and tourists. The site is important historically, and is a thriving urban space where buskers strum guitars while office workers sun themselves over lunch hour.

Arts & Culture

This is the 2nd oldest building in Cape Town (after the Castle), and was where the slaves were housed in appalling conditions in colonial times. The exhibits give a good insight into the history of slavery in Cape Town, as well as other changing temporary exhibitions.

Although we may not have as extensive a collection of art as European galleries, there are some interesting pieces by local artists as well as interesting changing temporary exhibitions

This museum has some really interesting exhibits, if you are interested in South African fauna, flora and landscapes. The Wildlife photography exhibition is held here every year, and really worthwhile, if you are fortunate enough to catch it!

Visitors learn about this once colourful hub for musicians, artists, and ‘good’ and ‘bad’ gangsters, that faced a 20-year long period of demolition and forced removals during the apartheid era. Engage with photographs, recordings and testimonials, which offer further insight into the turbulence of apartheid. In between exhibitions, share in the stories of District Six with engaging and friendly staff members, the majority of whom were displaced residents themselves and have intimate and personal stories to share

You cannot visit Cape Town and not visit one of its oldest markets, set on a cobbled square between Short and Longmarket Streets. Greenmarket Square square dates back to 1696, the year when the first Burgher Watch House (Now the Old Town House) was built. This is where Capetonians have been buying their clothing, jewellery, sandals, crafts and nick-nacks for years, and, whilst the face of the market may have changed a little - African curios now predominate - there is still an exciting buzz as well as evidence of the city’s most colourful and eccentric characters.
