There is an excellent protected area for children to play and swim in the shallows at the far right end of the beach park, where the sand meets the rocks. Because of the bounding reef, this is one of the safest swimming places on Kauai.

Anahola Beach is a 1/2-mile long curve of white sand tucked into the back of Anahola Bay. Multiple access points to Anahola Bay exist. The most common is at Anahola Beach Park on Anahola Road, where the restrooms, lifeguards, and campground are located.
There is an excellent protected area for children to play and swim in the shallows at the far right end of the beach park, where the sand meets the rocks. Because of the bounding reef, this is one of the safest swimming places on Kauai.

The aptly named Secret Beach (also known as Kauapea Beach) provides both seclusion and beautiful scenery. You'll have views over Kauai’s north shore as well as the cliff-dwelling Kilauea Lighthouse. By Hawaiian standards, this is a large beach, measuring nearly 3,000 feet long and up to 100 feet wide.
This destination is best known as Secret Beach because access requires more effort than simply parking beachside. To reach Secret Beach you must follow an unmarked, unpaved road to a small parking lot and walk for about 10 minutes on a foot path down to the west end of the beach. This foot path is not exceptionally steep, but it is usually slick and muddy, making the hike down and back up a challenge for some.
While access is not especially easy, the reward definitely outweighs the effort once you are oceanside. In addition to the exceptional views, Secret Beach offers surfing, fishing, sunbathing, snorkeling, picnicking, and seashell hunting. Also, in keeping with the theme of secrecy, there are no facilities at this beach, so be sure to bring your food, water, and sunscreen.

Directions:
Follow HI-56 north along the shoreline. Enter the town of Princeville.
In the town of Princeville, turn right along Ka Haku Road (if you were headed north).
Drive along Ka Haku Road past some different condo/resort areas.
Turn right onto Punahele Road. This is a road that forms a loop.
Continue along Punahele Road to where it turns into Kapiolani Loop. You will see a dirt parking area to your left, enough for maybe 8 or 9 cars. You should not be parking in front of any houses/condos.
From there, you should see a trail head at the right side of the parking lot. It’s a pretty easy trail to follow once you’ve found it.

Continue along Punahele Road to where it turns into Kapiolani Loop. You will see a dirt parking area to your left, enough for maybe 8 or 9 cars. You should not be parking in front of any houses/condos.
From there, you should see a trail head at the right side of the parking lot. It’s a pretty easy trail to follow once you’ve found it.
