Local Recomendations
One of our favorite places to visit in Encinitas is Moonlight Beach. It has so much to offer, and is the perfect place to spend your day with family and friends. Go in the morning to get the perfect spot on the beach, play a game of volleyball on the courts, or rent a surfboard to ride the waves. This is also the spot to catch a great sunset to end a fantastic day. We would go as far as saying that Moonlight Beach is the pride and joy of North County, San Diego!
Parking: There is a parking lot at Moonlight beach that is free of charge. However, during the warmer months it can get very busy. We usually park on the side streets to the right of the beach (A St., Fourth St., or Fifth St.) and walk down to the volleyball courts. There is no charge for street parking.
Rentals: You may rent a surfboard, boogie board, paddle board, fins, and more. Sunscreen, bagged ice, and fire wood is also available for purchase. We offer two beach towels in the guest suite for your use, however we can provide more if necessary. Please, do not bring the towels from the bathroom to the beach.
Concession stand hours: Summer: 10am-7pm Winter: 10am-Sunset
There are also fire pits for barbecuing, but they are first come first serve and they are very sought after.
Lifeguard towers are open 10am-6pm during summer season (late June to Labor Day).
We highly recommend getting ice cream at Handel’s after a day at the beach. Trust us, it is the best ice cream around!
*Please note that pets, portable grills, alcohol, smoking and glass is prohibited on Encinitas beaches.

YMCA is a quick drive or walk from the Ocean View Guest Suite. We have heard from a previous guest that this is one of the nicest YMCA's his family has visited, and we agree. This is a great place to get in a workout to start or end your day, thanks to the two daily passes that out of state visitors can utilize. The gym also offers indoor pools, basketball courts, group classes, and a well known skatepark used by some of the most famous skateboarders in the United States. Our family has been going to this YMCA for 10 years now!

Magdalena Ecke Family YMCA
200 Saxony RdYMCA is a quick drive or walk from the Ocean View Guest Suite. We have heard from a previous guest that this is one of the nicest YMCA's his family has visited, and we agree. This is a great place to get in a workout to start or end your day, thanks to the two daily passes that out of state visitors can utilize. The gym also offers indoor pools, basketball courts, group classes, and a well known skatepark used by some of the most famous skateboarders in the United States. Our family has been going to this YMCA for 10 years now!
One of the best places to visit outside of Encinitas is La Jolla Cove. If you want to be up close and personal with Seals and Sea Lions, you won't want to miss this! You can actually walk on the rocks and say hello to this vocal and hilarious animals, but make sure you don't try to touch them!
If you want to take a dunk in the water or rent a kayak, go a little north of the seals and find a rental store (Groupon always offers great deals for local stores in La Jolla for rentals, make sure and check it out before your visit). We love doing this because the seals will literally swim along side of you! Unless you are on a guided tour, you cannot go through the caves. However, a group tour is sometimes the best option to get the full experience!
