Food scene, sightseeing, shopping, historic buildings

Ten minutes from the Coho Cabin is La Conner, a very picturesque small town that sits on the saltwater Swinomish Channel. There are numerous restaurants and many small shops that carry unique and interesting items. There are also several art galleries and at least 3 museums. All of these places are within walking distance of each other. One of my favorite things to do is stroll the boardwalk along the Swinomish Channel which runs the length of the town.

Ferry ride, historic place, sightseeing, restaurants, shopping

The San Juan Islands- a 25 minute drive from the cabin to the San Juan Islands Ferry Terminal located just west of Anacortes. You can explore the islands by car or simply ride the ferry as a walk-on passenger. A big favorite of mine is to park my car at the ferry terminal in the morning, buy a "walk on" ticket and then spend the day exploring the beautiful town of Friday Harbor. Friday Harbor, on San Juan Island, is the last stop on the ferry route. It has been chosen several times as the "Most Picturesque Town in Washington". Once you walk off the ferry you are right in the middle of the town which offers great restaurants, interesting shops and plenty of walk-about sightseeing. In the evening, chose from one of the departure times, and simply walk on the ferry and enjoy the scenic ride back to the San Juan Island Ferry Terminal. Of course you could do the same trip but use your car instead and perhaps explore Lopez or Orcas Island. All ferry prices are quoted as round trip and schedules are available online.
