Favorite Hiking/Walking Trails

Coming to Alaska can be intimidating and overwhelming! Having grown up in Alaska, our family has been fortunate to get to experience a lot of what it has to offer and we want to share some of our favorite places with you. Our hope is to help relieve any of that anxiety of what to do and where to go during your stay with us. Please contact us with any questions about our recommendations or any other place for that matter!
Flattop is Alaska’s most visited peak. Ascend the 1.5 - mile, 1,350 vertical foot trail to the rocky, football field-sized summit in about an hour and take in panoramic views from Denali (Mt. McKinley) to the Aleutian Islands. If you want vistas without the hike, walk the short path from the parking lot to the overlook.

Near Point via Stuckagain Heights is a 3.3 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Anchorage, Alaska that offers the chance to see wildlife and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. A more direct route to Near Point than using the Basher Trailhead. Access is through an easement in a residential area. There is no trail sign and no parking at the trailhead due to "Fire Lane" signs. Ask us for specifics and we can direct you where to park. This is the route we typically take as there are less people at the start

This is a hike we take those who are a little more capable and in better shape. This hike can be started from the Basher Trail head (about 1 mile from Stuckagain Villa) or the Prospects Heights Trail Head on the south side of Anchorage. BEAUTIFUL views and scenery!

This trail head is about 3 miles from Stuckagain Villa. We use this trail when we are taking out elderly folks or young kids. It has a series of trails that you can choose from that are relatively flat, wide and maintained. You can also choose some of the more narrow trails that shoot off from the main ones and explore a little more.

The hike is relatively easy and short. One of the most popular “first hikes” for families with small children, the one-mile trail to Thunderbird Falls traverses a handsome birch forest along the Eklutna River canyon to reach a deck with views of a 200-foot waterfall. Located inside Chugach State Park north of Eagle River and just south of Eklutna, the trail climbs steeply at first, gaining about 100 feet in elevation. Then the route levels out and becomes an easy walk.

This is a great hike to take especially families with kids. The hand tram you take across the gorge is always a favorite and a bit adventurous. The drive to the trail head requires going down the highway along Turnagain arm which can be beautiful in itself. I would recommend looking up this hike online for more details and planning for it.
