Bar Eva in the church square of Ayagaures (5 minute walk up the hill, in the church square). Great local cuisine in a typical village bar/cafe run by my neighbours Eva and Ernesto. They source local meat and produce and have a small but delicious selection of traditional Canarian food. My favourites are the “tacos de pescado” which is cubed and fried fish served with “papas arrugadas y mojo” which are boiled and salted new potatoes with sauce and the fried pork served with chips. They also have goat stew, avocado salad, and pan con alioli which is a must to begin your meal.

Mama Gata in Castillo de Romeral. Another fantastic seafood restaurant on the promenade of Castillo. Take a dip in the saltwater swimming pools, which are far off of tourist track and then have a nice lunch in Mama Gata. The outdoor seating is pretty and the “gofio escaldado” is the best I’ve tried.

Restaurante Casa Martell in Santa Bridiga. The food is to die for here with great wines and the decoration is interesting in a museum style. I can’t even think of my favourite dish to recommend since they’re all delicious. If you take a trip up north, I highly recommend stopping here.

El Encuentro in Teror. Excellent modern canarian food right next to the beautiful church in Teror. The portions are big, so don’t over order and they are made to be shared! Teror can be wet and windy in the winter months so this is the perfect place to escape the damp and have a great glass of red. They have a grilled cheese served with tomato conserve which I really enjoyed.

El Encuentro in Teror. Excellent modern canarian food right next to the beautiful church in Teror. The portions are big, so don’t over order and they are made to be shared! Teror can be wet and windy in the winter months so this is the perfect place to escape the damp and have a great glass of red. They have a grilled cheese served with tomato conserve which I really enjoyed.
La Tapita Los Jose’s in San Fernando. A little gem in Sam Fernando which is a residential area here in the south. They serve excellent tapas and local cuisine, very fresh, very tasty! It had a buzzing atmosphere and is a great place to try in the south!
