My favorite Breakfast Spots

The breakfasts here are delicious and there is a great variety of coffee to sample. Why go to Starbucks when you have this gem a few blocks away?! This spot is very welcoming to digital nomads with comfortable tables and chairs and reliable internet. Be warned, it gets REALLY cold inside so if you are planning to work from here for a couple of hours, bring a sweater or a hoodie.

Great spot for breakfast/brunch with choices for vegetarians, vegans and meat eaters alike. Unlimited coffee refills whilst you are eating. The staff is lovey. You have the option of breakfasting overlooking Paseo de Montejo, inside or out back with the pink walls as a back drop. If you are here on the weekend, there is usually a lovely live music set out on the front deck. LOVELY!

Cocktails

This is a great breakfast AND a fantastic cocktail spot. Again you have the choice of settings (front deck overlooking Paseo de Montejo, inside the restaurant or out back) PLUS on livelier evenings, there is also the roof top to indulge in. Beautiful views and people watching opportunities, usually accompanied by great live music. Good for friends or a romantic date night.

Dinner in Merida

Great people watching over square. Some nights you are graced with entertaining street performers, others it's 'just a casual salsa' evening. Feel free to join in. Delicious food from Oaxaca suitable for vegetarians and meat eaters. A great selection of mezcal served spectacularly in brandy like glasses, poured dramatically in front of you. Love this spot. Definitely get a seat outside rather than in the a/c. It is advisable to get a reservation as walk ins are not always so lucky.

Food scene

Yes the Mexican cheese is delicious but sometimes you just need a good slice of real camembert or brie. This is an amazing find. You can buy the cheese by the gramm and make your own delicious sandwiches at home or you could indulge in an in house baguette, and wine and enjoy the patio here. Love this place! be careful - the opening hours of this place are very french. They open late and close promptly. PS There is a cute wine shop next door which sells a range of French, Latin American and other international wines at a range of prices to suit all budgets.

This is only about 90 minutes from Merida by bus OR 75 minutes by car. It's beautiful and if you go at the right time of year, you will see sooooo many flamingoes. Just bring repellent. The mosquitoes always seem to be out in force after sunset :-/ You can easily do this in a day trip from Merida OR book a night in Celestun town centre OR choose one of the more isolated hotels a few km outside of the town. Beautiful either way!

47 miles away from Merida, the Magical Town of Izamal, whose name means "Dew wich descends from the sky". Slik kommer du deg rundt

Uber is everywhere and is about 15% cheaper than taxis. Note that cabs are safe here in Merida :)

Uber is fully legal BUT if ordering UBER from the airport, try NOT to get picked up by the taxis. There is still some resentment between the two entities. Sometimes you get lucky and the UBER driver will pick you up by the statues. Sometimes, you have to walk away from the airport exit to get picked up.
Måter å spare på

Uber Eats

If you were feeling lazy OR the rain or sun is too much for you, uber eats has a GREAT selection of restaurants throughout the city, Delivery charges range between free and 35 pesos - well worth it in those moments when you don't want to / or can't leave the house :)

Cenotes

From the Mayan dzonoot, which means “Hole with water”, they are a proof of the fascinating nature in Yucatan. A cenote is a natural well of crystal clear water, sacred to the Mayans, as they represented the gateway to the underworld or “Xibalbá”. There are more than three thousand cenotes in Yucatan and only about 100 can be visited by tourist. There are cenotes for all tastes, from those operated by cooperatives and communities to private ones which combine the experience with activities such as flora and fauna sighting, free swimming, snorkeling, rappel, zip-line, cave diving and kayaking. Some of them still preserve archaeological vestiges as they were Mayan ceremonial centers. There are different kinds of cenotes: open, closed, and semi-closed or with a cave. CAVE CENOTES - Yaal Utzil, Suytun, Tzan Ujun, Kat, San Ignacio, Grutas y Cenote de Santa María, Cenote Santa Rosa, Sambulá, X’kekén, Samulá, Chihuán, Balmí, Canunché y Yakunah. OPEN CENOTES - Zací, Lol Há, Ik kil, X’Canché. https://www.nobelpeacesummityucatan.com/copy-of-programa-de-jovenes?lang=en

Haciendas

Most of Yucatan haciendas in the 19th century produced Henequen, known as green gold, which was processed and exported in the form of rope and string. The trip through Yucatan would be incomplete without a visit to the state´s haciendas, as many of them have been turned into beautiful luxury hotels or museums which provide a glimpse of the colonial era, and many others remain unrestored, creating special scenarios for photography aficionados of those seeking different stages for their weddings or events. In the last decade of the twentieth century, haciendas went through an uprising of popularity and splendor, making them now a place of perfect harmony for rest and meditation, but especially to offer visitors unique experiences. https://www.nobelpeacesummityucatan.com/copy-of-programa-de-jovenes?lang=en

CULTURE AND GASTRONOMY

Geography and history kept the Yucatan Peninsula isolated from the rest of the country, so its cultural manifestations evolved differently, influenced in many cases by its commercial dealings with France, Cuba and the American city of New Orleans. The Yucatecan trova highlights the mixture of rhythms as bambuco, bolero, jarana, clave and some others. Typical dresses are also worn to dress up in festivities such as the vaquerias dances of the patron saints’ fiestas. For more elegant and stylized occasions, the garments are complemented with filigree gold jewelry. One of most important fiestas is celebrated to honor the deceased, known as Hanal Pixan or “food for he souls” carried out on November 1 and 2. Food is one of the enthusiasm-arising reasons among those visiting Yucatan: the wide variety, the history of the dishes and the endemic ingredients make the Yucatecan gastronomy an important element any visitor. Pibil pork, salbutes, and panuchos prepared with hand-made corn tortillas; papadzules, lima soup, turkey in black stuffing or chilmole and stuffed cheese, as well as poc-chuc, are somo of the regional specialties you can’t miss tasting. https://www.nobelpeacesummityucatan.com/copy-of-programa-de-jovenes?lang=en
