An important historical monument in Zagora is ‘Ellinomoussio’ or Rigas’s school, as it’s called today. In this institution Rigas Ferreos, the famous Greek hero of the 18th century, first attended school. It is located in Prodromos old church near Agios Georgios cemetery in our way down to Chorefto. In this location a school had existed since the early 18th cent. It was names ‘Ellinomoussio’, an institution of classical studies. From 1740 until 1776 he had lived consecutively in Alexandria, in Venice and in Izmir, where he was forced to leave the city. Afterwards, in 1755 Ioannis Prigos moved in Amsterdam and became a trader.
